NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO....NO
Hi. That would be a good start right? HI.
Right now that we have all the personal and standard greeting done, I shall begin. WHY!?!!!!
So I've just finished watching Beautiful Creatures and after reading the book all I can say about the film is....WHY!?!?!?!
SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
The overall pace of the movie was a great improvement compared to the book which I feel dragged at most points. And the soundtrack to the film, AWESOME. But the plot, the characters, the setting of the book was also amazing, and that's something the film let me down on - BIG TIME.
Not just one, not just two, but a WHOLE BUNCH of characters were cut out - Marian (WHO WAS MY FAVOURITE), Ethan's dad, Ethan's aunts (the sisters, there were three of them), and practically ALL of Lena's family were not included in the film. WHAT AND WHY!? I can understand the aunts, because I didn't really see their importance in the books. BUT WHY MARIAN...NO.
How did they push past this? By making Amma herself and Marian combined....I kid thee not.
What else did they skip out?
Well, they mixed scenes up, making them happen before other scenes compared to the book. Oh and they cut out several scenes, especially the school dance, and they messed with the court scene (which both Lena and Ethan should've been in, but weren't.) And coincidentally Ethan was robbed off key knowledge from Amma and Macon, as well, apparently he never followed Amma to learn more about what Amma could do.
OH AND BIG WARNING.
Macon has a few more added powers. Lena and Ethan can't communicate telepathically, and Ridley and Link never have their thing going on and the whole ending CHANGES. It's still left on the cliff hanger, but a smaller one.
I don't understand the majority of this. And Marian, WHY Marian?
Okay rant over.
If you watch the film let me know what you think and mention if you've read the book or not? I'll probably post a sensible review later.
